Over 35 years ago we put our experience to work and designed a full range of ice making machines with unique features and benefits. These machines are now operating around the world producing shell ice, which is being applied to preserve meat & poultry, fish, fruit and vegetables. Ice from our machines is also being used as an ingredient in the prepared meats and bakery industries. Another application of Berg Shell Ice machines is in the production freezing of various types of juices and animal blood plasma. Our ice is also used with aggregates in production of mass concrete, and as an essential cooling ingredient in the manufacture of chemical dyes.
Wherever ice is required, Berg can meet that need with superior machines of various capacities, producing a premium and very versatile solution known as Shell Ice. Berg ice making machines produce Shell Ice, which offers important advantages to the user. For example, it cools faster and lasts longer than flake and other types of ice as proven by independent tests (a summary copy can be made available for your reference). Since all types ice do not begin to work effectively until it begins to melt, Shell Ice gets a jump on the competition by reaching the melting point sooner, because of its relatively high production temperature. And, unlike flake ice, or crushed block ice it will not form into hard unmanageable clumps, thus assuring more effective cooling. This feature of Shell Ice is also partially due to the higher production temperature and the unique shape of Shell Ice fragments. In addition, shell ice can be stored at higher temperatures, even in non-refrigerated storage rooms and requires less space due to its higher bulk density.
We have many customers who not only want the best in ice making machinery, they also want a complete system of conveyors and storage. Conveyors can be either mechanical or pneumatic or a combination, to move the ice quickly to the point of use. Berg can supply powered ice rakes to level and deliver the ice from storage. As part of our total ice handling system we also supply equipment for producing liquid-slurry, which can be pumped to the point of use.
It is also easier to blow, convey, rake and bag than many other forms of ice, as it resembles loose gravel when mobilized. Produced in either air or water cooled configurations, our machines use ozone friendly refrigerants so that they conform to environmental standards. They also perform at the lowest possible energy cost-per-ton.

The main reason for this, our machines are based on a simple design requiring low maintenance and limited operator supervision.All materials and components comprising Berg ice machines are of rugged construction and have superior corrosion-resistance properties.
Other cost-savings come from low maintenance due to fewer moving parts, and minimum floor space requirement due to its modular presentation. This modular design means compactness. The ability to double up on a single ice maker by adding a second module within the same length and height envelope, with about a meter increase in width demonstrates the flexibility of the Berg shell ice machines.

All plastic and metal components coming into contact with the ice production are designed to meet food grade requirements.
Special emphasis has gone into operating safety factors including a large emergency stop button and indicating lights conveniently located on the electrical panel face. All Electrical are customized to meet the local requirements of the operator.
Each Berg ice machine is fully performance tested and certified to produce a minimum of 100% of its rated output prior to being shipped.
With a worldwide installation base of Berg equipment, we can provide all of our customers with full factory service and spare parts as required.

The simplicity of operation and maintenance of the BERG Shell Ice Maker Ice Machine is it's unique feature. Any mechanic with the basic knowledge of refrigeration cycles will be able to keep it operating at peak efficiency. Before leaving our plant, each machine is tested operated, and capacity checked. Refrigerant is pumped down into receiver and valves are closed before shipment.
Occasionally, minor adjustments during start-up and operation are necessary to compensate for such differences as water pressure, water temperatures or ambient temperatures
